Oxnard

What's it like

oxnard.jpg (13598 bytes)

Ocean waves at a beach break with peaks both left and right. Typical waves range from 3 to 4 foot faces but can reach up to 20 foot on big winter swells (a southern swell in summer can help as well). Very clean, fast barrels. No real hazards to speak of: it’s on a sandy beach with no rocks. There is some current and difficulty on entry when the waves are big.

The water temp ranges 52-60°F in winter to 60- 68°F in summer.

How to get there

Oxnard is 1 hour north of Los Angeles. Take the 101 freeway north to Victoria exit. Go south about 6 miles to Channel Islands Blvd. Go right to the harbor, left to the beach and about 1 block towards a long beach. Surf wherever you like, the entire beach is public. Avoid Silverstrand Beach just to the South: too many surfers.
